Aaliyah Mom Interview For Job
In the Brooklyn investigation, prosecutors have obtained marriage and annulment records for Mr. Kelly and Aaliyah, as well as Aaliyah's birth certificate, according to a court document filed late Thursday. Among the evidence prosecutors have collected are records from the Illinois Department of Human Services and the Illinois secretary of state, the filing said. The new indictment did not specify which agency employed the individual who allegedly took a payoff from Mr. Kelly. Aaliyah was 14 when she made her first album, "Age Ain't Nothing but a Number, " which was released in 1994 and produced by Mr. Kelly, an R&B singer whose hit singles include "Ignition (Remix)" and "I Believe I Can Fly, " has faced longstanding sexual abuse accusations. Law enforcement scrutiny of Mr. Kelly intensified after several women spoke out publicly in a six-part Lifetime documentary, "Surviving R. Kelly, " which was released in January. After the documentary aired, prosecutors in Illinois, New York and Minnesota filed criminal charges against Mr. Kelly, leading to his arrest.

Mike Albans/NY Daily News Archive via Getty Images Aaliyah's mother, Diane Haughton, is passionately refuting statements made by former R. Kelly backup singer Jovante Cunningham in the Surviving R. Kelly docuseries, which premieres Thursday. In a preview released Wednesday, Cunningham claims that she saw R. Kelly and his then-underage protege having sex on a tour bus. She said that because the space on a tour bus is limited there is little opportunity for privacy, leading her to witness their alleged sexual contact. "So it just so happened we were all laying in our bunks and the curtains are open, everybody's communicating, laughing…When the [room] door flew open on the bus. Robert was having sex with Aaliyah, " she claimed. Aaliyah died in 2001 at the age of 22. Haughton released a statement late Wednesday, claiming that Cunningham's comments could not possibly be true because she and husband were always present. " The woman and so-called back up singer in the forthcoming Surviving … documentary that describes seeing, meeting or ever breathing the same air as my daughter, Aaliyah, is lying and a liar, " the statement began.
"When the [room] door flew open on the bus. Robert was having sex with Aaliyah. " In a statement, Haughton said, "the woman and so-called back up singer … that describes seeing, meeting or even breathing the same air as my daughter, Aaliyah, is lying and is a liar. " Haughton noted she and her husband were "always" on tour with Aaliyah and that have "never seen her before anywhere on planet earth, until now. " Haughton doesn't want "these lies and fabrications" to taint her daughter's legacy. "My daughter only wanted to realize her dream of sharing her talent with the world, and give her all performing on stage, and in front of the camera for the fans she adored so much, " the statement continued. "She realized that dream thanks to those true fans who still love and support her legacy unconditionally to this day. "Shame on all those involved in this project who thought it kosher to drag Aaliyah's name into a situation that has nothing to do with her today, " Haughton concluded. "Once again, this will not be tolerated. "
R. Kelly, who has been accused of running a sex cult, had "no comment" on the claims put forth in the documentary. Aaliyah and R. Kelly never commented on the nature of their relationship. However, in 1994 it was widely reported the two secretly got married. Although a public marriage certificate said she was 18, the singer would have been 15 at the time. In Surviving R. Kelly, his former personal assistant, Demetrius Smith, claims to have attended the wedding and to having helped obtain false documents for underaged Aaliyah. "I was in the room when they got married. I'm not proud of that. I had papers forged for them when Aaliyah was underaged. It was just a quick little ceremony — she didn't have on a white dress, he didn't have on a tux. Just everyday wear. She looked worried and scared, " Smith alleged. The marriage was purportedly annulled within the year as "her parents had the last say. " In 2001, Aaliyah's career was tragically cut short when she died in a plane crash. Van Allen confirmed Kelly told her the pair got married because of the young starlet's pregnancy and that getting married—where he would claim he believed she was 18 years old—would alleviate him from any criminal charges. G/O Media may get a commission As the VladTV host noted, she was essentially clearing up a "decades-long rumor. " "It's not a rumor, it's the truth, " said Van Allen. Along with the Aaliyah-related confessions, Van Allen said the 52-year-old singer told her about his own childhood sexual abuse, at the hands of his sister. Van Allen appeared as one of Kelly's survivors in Lifetime's harrowing documentary, Surviving R. Kelly, and claimed she not only identified the young girl in the infamous sex tape, which was related to his 2002 child pornography case, but engaged in sexual acts with Kelly and the girl when the young lady was only 14 years old. Diane Haughton has denied the allegations from Surviving R. Kelly, in relation to her daughter. The Root has reached out to the Aaliyah for Mac account in an attempt to obtain a statement for Ms. Haughton, as she has previously published an official statement via that account.

" Kelly's alleged victims' claims and his pending aggravated sexual assault case has reached an extra alarming chapter. In a recent interview, R. Kelly accuser Lisa Van Allen dropped a whammy in relation to Kelly's alleged relationship with the late singer Aaliyah. Well, more specifically, with her mother, Diane Haughton. "He actually stayed at their home in Detroit and her mother actually was sexually attracted to him as well, " Allen told VladTV. "When Aaliyah went to sleep, he would go in the living room and him and her would do sexual acts on the couch while Aaliyah was sleep in the bedroom. " Van Allen also spoke on the long-rumored controversial relationship, particularly when Aaliyah was around 14 or 15 years old. Allen claims Kelly "confided" in her about his and the young R&B singer's "pins in eyeballs" pact — as in, they wouldn't divulge any details of their sexual relationship, even if harshly interrogated with "pins in eyeball" type torture.

In Lifetime's new six-part docuseries Surviving R. Kelly, one of the troubled R&B singer's former backup singers claims to have witnessed his sexual encounters with underage girls — including Aaliyah. Now Haughton is calling the woman "a liar. " Jovante Cunningham was on tour with R. Kelly, born Robert Sylvester Kelly, in the '90s and alleges her boss and his protégée began a sexual relationship when he was 27 and Aaliyah just 15. "We were out on the road with Aaliyah, " Cunningham said in the first episode. "On a tour bus, there really aren't many confined spaces. When you get on the bus there are bunks and so these bunks have little curtains you can pull at night if you don't want anybody to see you sleeping. " "So it just so happened we were all laying in our bunks and the curtains are open, everybody's communicating, laughing, " she continued.
